Mochu’s Flavor Expedition #9: The Spooky Savory Hunt 🍔🍟🍿

"YAAAY! We’re back with our official flavor audit of the Halloween festival at Disneyland® Paris! ☁️🍿🍂

Who ever said Halloween is only about candy and sweets? No way! A true explorer knows that trekking miles and miles across the park all day takes some serious fuel: warm, savory, and extra-crunchy goodness!

That’s why today we’re launching a full-blown savory monster hunt across three totally different lands: we travel straight into the future in Discoveryland, take shelter in the storybook corners of Fantasyland, and finish up in the haunted Wild West of Frontierland tracking down the season’s weirdest, yummiest, and spookiest creations.

We captured burgers with spiderwebs toasted right onto the buns and stuffed with Doritos®, pitch-black garlic sauces that look like glowing potion venom, and Cheetos® tossed together with popcorn (or popcorn with Cheetos... we’re still running tests on the correct scientific order! 🧐).

Pull up a chair and join us, because today Chris, Tere, Tián (our official French fry connoisseur), Nubi, and I... are going on a hunt!"

1. The Duel of the Spiderwebs: Space Beef or Fairytale Chicken? 🍔🕸️

(Mochu sets two identical-looking burgers face-to-face on the table, like two heavyweight fighters squaring off in a boxing ring). 🦝🥊

"In two far corners of the park, we tracked down these two sneaky suspects. They’re twin sisters separated at birth by two magical lands: both share a golden, lightly toasted brioche bun branded with a charred spiderweb right on top, pepper jack cheddar, slices of savory chorizo, smoky bacon sauce, and... a big handful of Sweet Chili Doritos® shoved straight into the heart of the burger to bring it to life!

The catch? One is beef and the other is chicken. Our first detective mission was to sniff out the evil twin... because in every mystery story, there’s always an evil twin!"

🚀 1. Burger Régal d'Halloween (€15.00 a la carte / €20.00 in a combo) · Café Hyperion (Discoveryland)

(Mochu squishes the bun with both plush paws, inspects the branded web from every angle, and takes a huge bite with his eyes squeezed shut). 🤤🥩

"Mmm! This flavor combo is an absolute party for anyone who loves bold food! The chorizo brings a salty, rustic, smoky kick, the pepper cheddar ties everything together, and the crunch of the Doritos® inside the bun sparks that happy smile you just can't hide. It totally reminds me of recess at school when you squish chips into your sandwich so it crunches extra loud!

However, it’s not served very hot, and the beef patty is a little on the dry side; if it had been as juicy as promised and smothered with a bit more melted cheese, it would have scored lots of bonus points.

And the fries that came with it... oh boy, they’re so sad 😞. Poor little things... they arrived completely soggy, like fries that spent way too long sweating inside their little paper sleeve before hitting the table, losing every bit of their crunch. But since a burger without fries is like Mickey without his ears, we revived them with a magic potion of red ketchup and ate every single one without leaving a trace!"
• The Squad’s Verdict:8/10 space stars with smoky chorizo flavor. 🌟🥓(The good twin... but held back by dry beef and sad fries that desperately needed ketchup first aid).

🧚 2. Burger Crunch d’Enfer (€15.00 a la carte / €20.00 in a combo) · Au Chalet de la Marionnette (Fantasyland)

(Mochu gently peels back the paper wrapper, examines the burger with pure satisfaction, and bites down right where a massive piece of crispy chicken pokes out; his golden ears wobble with the loud crunch). 💥🍗

"CRUUUNCH! Now THIS is hands-down the ultimate burger comeback of the spooky season! After the scare we got from that soggy black bun at The Unlucky Nugget, this burger totally restores our faith: the breaded chicken cutlet is humongous (maybe even a little too big for a burger this size!), super fresh, piping hot, and wonderfully tender.

The Doritos® crunch with serious attitude, and the smoky bacon sauce hits the bullseye. If the space beef had possessed this level of freshness, it would’ve been a whole different ghost story! 😉

The regular fries here showed up pretty sad too. It looks like standard park fries need an emergency magic spell to stay hot and crispy... or we all just need to start ordering sweet potato fries instead!"

2. Frontierland’s Last Chance: The Mystery of the Black Chicken and Sweet Potato Fries 🤠🍟

(Mochu tiptoes across the wooden porch of Last Chance Café, checking left and right like a pint-sized frontier sheriff to make sure no mine ghosts are tailing him; he rests his fork on the table and breathes a sigh of relief). 👃🪵

(Chris arrives at the table carrying a black bowl lined with purple Phantom Manor paper: four giant, crispy chicken strips resting on a mountain of sweet potato fries, completely drenched in a glossy, pitch-black sauce that looks straight out of an evil witch’s cauldron). 🦝👀🖤

"LOOK AT THIS! It looks like a wicked brew served up by the Evil Queen herself—the very same one who poisoned Snow White’s apple! It's dripping with a shiny black sauce that looks just like poisonous dragon drool! It’s creepy and fascinating at the exact same time!

(Mochu spears an enormous chicken tender with his fork, dripping that thick black sauce like mysterious ink).
Mmm! The chicken (aiguillettes) is delicious: hot, tender inside, and coated in that crunchy breading we love so much.

But here comes the Evil Queen’s trap: this so-called 'black garlic sauce' that promised to be a mysterious aioli tastes just like thick, heavy, plain mayonnaise! At first, the hint of garlic is nice. But as you keep eating, the garlic flavor runs away like it just saw a ghost—leaving the heavy mayo completely unmasked: thick, greasy, and trying to hijack your whole tummy until you fall into a deep sleep where someone has to kiss you to wake you up!
(Mochu scrunches his entire nose and sticks his tongue out with pure disgust). 🦝🤢
«Ewwww, gross! Nobody’s waking me up with slimy prince drool, I’d much rather just drink an ice-cold soda!»
Luckily, Chris and I caught on quick, so we started scraping the black sauce off the tenders with our napkins to enjoy our meal in peace and break the curse. If you love spoonfuls of straight mayonnaise, you’ll be in heaven; but if not... definitely ask for it on the side so your chicken stays crispy and spell-free!"

🍠 Frites de patates douces (€5.00) · Last Chance Café

(Mochu pulls the steaming paper bag close and picks out the longest fry, holding it up against the sunlight like a true scientist). 🦝🍟🧐

"We’ve got a mystery on our hands worthy of Frontierland’s greatest detectives!
These are sweet potato fries.

On the official app photo, they promised us a dream mix: an artistic blend of purple, yellow, and orange fries. But in real life... they’re all completely orange! Looks like the kitchen wizard needs to keep practicing his color-changing charms! 🤣

Still, you can’t fool our taste buds with missing colors: one single bite was all it took to realize these are glorious. Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside, with the exact sprinkle of fine salt needed to highlight the natural sweetness. The entire squad gave them instant, two thumbs up approval. And honestly, if you offered me a choice between a real gold coin and a steaming bag of these hot fries... I’m choosing the fries every single time! 🤤🍠"

3. The Haunted Wagon: The Popcorn & Cheetos Experiment 🍿🧀

(Mochu digs his plush paw deep into the box, scoops up a mixed handful, and stuffs the whole thing into his mouth. With chipmunk-puffed cheeks, he starts talking with his mouth totally full): 🦝👅🧀

«...super crunchy, loaded with that orange dust that coats your fingers, and packed with savory cheese flavor! But the popcorn... oh man, the popcorn! It totally lacked crunch; the kernels felt a little soft and deflated.

If they had used giant mushroom-style popcorn (the big, round carnival balls) or giant, freshly popped butterfly corn, the mix with the Cheetos® cheese would’ve been a solid ten out of ten. But as it stands, it’s a brilliant idea that just didn't pop the way it should have in your mouth.

The purple cardboard box is so pretty that I’m taking it home in my backpack to store my crayons... though honestly, I really wish it had been a collectible hard-plastic bucket or a cute strap pouch like the ones they make over in the Tokyo parks.»

"If you’re heading to Disneyland® Paris this Halloween and you’re truly hungry for real food, here is your no-fail treasure map:

1. The Winning Burger: The Burger Crunch d’Enfer in Fantasyland. That giant, hot, extra-crispy chicken cutlet with the Doritos® totally knocked out the beef. Though the beef version is still pretty tasty!

2. The Tactical Sauce Warning: If you order Destin Funeste in Frontierland, ask for extra napkins or get the black sauce on the side so you don’t fall into the Evil Queen’s heavy mayo trap.

3. The True Crunchy Treasure: Forget the regular park fries; the crown for the best savory bite of the entire season goes straight to the sweet potato fries at Last Chance Café. They are worth pure gold!
