How We Met Olaf at Disneyland Paris

We're sharing the story behind our three-hour wait, plus a little magical clue just for you ❄️

During our last visit to Disneyland Paris, we discovered that when it comes to spotting our favorite snowman in World of Frozen, there is one golden rule that overrides all others:

Olaf is the one who decides. ❄

And we decided to wait.

Day One: We Missed Him By a Hair

We were wandering through World of Frozen, browsing the shops, soaking in the incredible atmosphere, and simply letting the magic of Arendelle guide us.

At one point, we noticed a crowd gathering near the queue for Frozen Ever After. We strolled over to see what all the fuss was about. And right at that exact moment... we saw Olaf waving goodbye and walking away. 😩

We had missed him by mere seconds.

We asked a Cast Member if there was a set schedule to catch him later. The answer was beautifully simple:

"There are no set times. Olaf decides when he wants to come out and play."

It made us smile, but it also made one thing crystal clear: we couldn't schedule this meet-and-greet like a regular character encounter. We had to rethink our strategy.

Day Two: Trying Again

At 3:30 PM, we found a spot near the area where we had seen him the day before. And we waited.

An hour went by. Then another. During that time, we kept seeing Cast Members shuffling strollers around the area, and every time we'd think: "Is it happening now?"

But nope. False alarm.

At 6:20 PM, Something Shifted

At 6:20 PM, several Cast Members came out and completely cleared the area right in front of the large wooden gates next to the Frozen Ever After queue.

This felt different. We looked at each other. This was it.

We jumped up and positioned ourselves right in front. And sometime between 6:30 and 7:00 PM ... Olaf finally appeared! 🥹❄

After waiting for nearly three hours, we finally got to share a magical moment with him.

And let me tell you—it was absolutely worth it.

We recorded the whole encounter, and we still get to relive that warm hug every time we hit play.

So, How Can You Find Olaf?

Here is the golden nugget of info.

We can't give you a specific time slot because Olaf simply does not have an official, published schedule.

However, during our stakeout, we learned to spot certain subtle cues in the area that tipped us off that a magical appearance was imminent.

In our case, watching the Cast Members actively clear the strollers and empty the space in front of the grand gates was the ultimate giveaway.

But keep this in mind: this isn't an official rule, and we can't promise it will always happen exactly this way. It’s just how our adventure played out, and we wanted to share the pixie dust with you.

Our Advice: Leave a Little Breathing Room for World of Frozen

If your heart is set on meeting Olaf, the best strategy isn't to meticulously block out a specific hour of your day for him.

Instead, leave some open, unstructured time in your itinerary to simply hang out around World of Frozen.

That way, you can relax in the area, keep an eye on the subtle Cast Member movements, and, with a little luck, seize the moment as soon as the wooden gates swing open.

And if he takes his time... that's perfectly fine! World of Frozen is breathtaking even without Olaf. ❄ You can ride Frozen Ever After, explore the charming boutiques, snap gorgeous photos, marvel at the intricate Nordic details, or simply soak up the kingdom's vibrant atmosphere. That way, waiting never feels like "lost time." It just becomes a beautiful part of your adventure.
